This semester, as part of the Dimond Academic Commons, located in the Dimond Library new collaborative workspaces have appeared. In front of the CIS Information Technology Support Center (ITSC) on level 3, the collaborative workspaces provide a place for groups of two or more students to work together. At all times of day, many Students have taken advantage of the group tables to work on assignments, discuss strategies and develop partnerships with others. Comfortable chairs and large screen monitors at each table make the space conducive to getting quality work done.
Sometimes personal laptops are hooked up to the monitor or students log into their cluster accounts with the cluster computer to make use of the programs available. The group tables also have power outlets, helpful when laptop batteries get low, as well as Ethernet cords for internet access if wireless is not preferred.
There are no reservations for the group tables; the first come first served rule applies for groups of two or more students. Beware that if you are working at a table alone, you should be willing to relinquish your seat if groups of two or more are wondering around for a place to work. If you do not want to get up, stay put and invite others to share the space; you may gain some valuable insight on that one thing that needs finishing up.
