The Genius feature in iTunes 8 suggests songs in both your own library and similar matches within the iTunes store. The Genius feature scans the entire music library, presenting a new musical profile in which to base future suggestions. The Genius feature can even be used on your iPod, by taking all songs and generating a playlist. You can also give Genius a list of specific songs to find. To turn the Genius on, click STORE, and Turn On Genius.

Apple just released a software update for the Safari Web Browser. While the update improves features, the most vital feature is a new defense against “Phishing,” or impostor websites.
The web browser now references a website security key for authenticity. The goal is to eliminate websites with the same look and feel of popular websites, but are used for a malicious purpose or identity theft.
To update your computer, click the Apple Menu and choose Software Update. If using Windows, download Safari and reinstall.
In Dimond Library, reference librarians work with students on all stages of a project. From selecting an appropriate topic to finding sources and proper citations. The reference experts will also assist in helping to expand your search through numerous databases and library collections that are otherwise unknown to most library-goers.

iPhoto is Apple’s photo manager with editing capabilities. It automatically sorts photo collections upon import date to stay more organized. The new auto-adjust features allow quicker clean up a photo galleries. iPhoto has a new ‘rule-of-thirds’ cropping tool to assist adjust with layout. A tool used for straightening the angle of pictures to help compensate your friend’s crooked hand is also included. iPhoto is standard with Mac OS X as part of iLife.

Back up your work
When working on UNH Cluster computers or your personal computer, it’s vitally important to back up your information. Consider using a USB thumb drive or external hard drive to frequently copy files in the case of a power outage, hardware failure, or accidental deletion.
Always use protection
UNH offers Mcaffee Virus Scan Enterprise for Windows and Clamxav anti-virus for Apple at no charge to all UNH students. Virus prevention software is useless unless it is updated.
UNH Cluster’s Storage Quota
Each student is allowed 250MB (megabytes) of storage on their account. It can be used to store documents, videos, presentations, and pictures. To view your usage, log into UNH Email via Blackboard and check the “quota status’ in the light blue bar below the logout button.
When creating digital presentations for class, consider the following to make your life easier, increasing the effectiveness of the information you want to get across to the audience.
- Consider using built-in templates with Powerpoint or Keynote: The color patterns are designed together and easy to view. They also contain proper layouts for images and text.
- Both LCD projectors and digital video cameras are available from UNH A/V Services. Footage from a rented camera can be edited on cluster workstations using iMovie on a Mac or Windows Movie Maker for a PC. Reservations must be made 48 hours prior to the delivery time. - Group work stations located at Dimond Library contain oversized display monitors, which students can use to perform a dry-run on presentations. Remember: Digital presentations look much different on a 13″ laptop screen than on a larger display.
