Student IT Guide Now Online

President Huddleston’s call for increased sustainability, has extended its reach to students seeking computer information.  The printed Computing & Phone Guide has transformed into an online Student IT Guide. The guide is designed to help students use campus computing resources. Watch for the orange ‘Get Connected’ card on move-in weekend.  The card will help students get online and point to the new online guide.

Anti-Virus Protection available for PCs and Macs

photo_6563_20090525By Dan VanderClock, UNH Senior

Anti-virus software is made available to students by the University for both PC and Mac users.  PC users are offered McAfee VirusScan Enterprise. If you bought your computer and it came with a free trial of McAfee, note that the Enterprise version is entirely different. The VirusScan Enterprise version is much more sleek and much less of a resource hog than retail and trial versions of McAfee.  Mac users are offered ClamXav, which is an open source anti-virus program. ClamXav operates a little differently from the standard PC anti-virus software. Scans will only run when you start them. They will not run automatically and unlike other anti-virus programs, ClamXav will not scan files as you open them.  Visit virus.unh.edu to learn more. For support with both McAfee and ClamXav, visit the IT Support Center in Dimond Library or call the CIS Help Desk at (603) 862-4242.

Just set it and forget it! Still need help? Call the IT Help Desk at (603) 862-4242 or stop by the IT Support Center located in the Dimond Academic Commons.

The 2009 UNH Spring semester is coming to an end on Monday, May 11th. It’s that hectic time of year where many students are busy working on exams, finishing projects, and staying up late writing term papers. One very important reminder from CIS: Save and back up your work often. Too many times students will call or stop by the IT Support Center upset that their research or paper has disappeared. Save often or use a CD, USB Flash Drive, or simply save your work to your Wildcat account. This will save time and headaches preparing for the end of the semester.
